6 EPIC reasons to visit the Spiegeltent

Gold Coast show tickets now selling.

Happy news Gold Coasters The Spiegeltent Gold Coast, presented by Strut & Fret Production House, is returning to Broadbeach with a vengeance throughout April and May and bringing with it a host of world-class shows that’ll knock your socks off.

In honour of great times and, in particular the ones the Spiegeltent regularly brings into our lives, here are six EPIC shows you simply must not miss when the big, beautiful tent rolls back into town.

World-class comedy
Guys, this is the greatest. Comedy legends Dave Hughes, Peter Helliar, Paul McDermott and Matt Okine will be gracing our Gold Coast shores with what you know will be some of the most pants-wettingly hilarious times of your life. Hughesy is bringing his latest show Hairy, )(because he hasn’t had a haircut for 12 months) and you know he’ll manage to make that the funniest thing that’s ever happened plus the loveable Pete Helliar will bring his acclaimed Big Boy Pants show which is, of course, packed with abundant laughing opportunities. Oh and the King of The Bachelor, Osher Günsberg, is also coming along. So it’s probably a good idea to nab yourself some tickets quick smart.

More comedy
Not to mention, Australian stand-up comedy royalty Tom Gleeson, Tommy Little, Lano & Woodley and John Safran are heading to the Coast right off the back of the Melbourne International Comedy Festival. Life is about to get a whole lot funnier friends.

Carlotta: Queen of the Cross
Bringing a hilarious (and brutal) collection of songs and stories from 50 years on and off stage, Carlotta’s show (of the Les Girls cabaret show that inspired Priscilla Queen of the Desert) is a must-see. With award-winning Micheal Griffiths on piano, it’s sure to be an entertaining evening. It’s on Sunday the 12th of May.

LIMBO Unhinged
From the people who brought us Blanc de Blanc comes another masterpiece of epic proportions. Think cabaret, pyrotechnics, sword swallowing, aerial shenanigans and all set to a pumping soundtrack that’ll ensure LIMBO Unhinged is something you’ll never forget.

Katie Noonan and Elixir
ARIA Award winning singer and songwriter Katie Noonan and her jazz trio Elixir will also feature among the sprawling Spiegeltent program, for a magical night of music and poetry on Thursday 18th April.

Joan As Police Woman
Extraordinary New York recording artist, live concert performer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and producer, Joan As Police Woman (Joan Wasser). Performing live under the Spiegeltent Gold Coast on Wednesday 1st May, Joan As Police Woman will be accompanied by bandmates Parker Kindred, Eric Lane and Jacob Silver to kick-off the Australian tour of Wasser’s highly acclaimed new album Damned Devotion.

Also, the Spiegeltent will feature a festival bar and delicious local food to indulge in before and after each show. Which is obviously an extra good time.

Bring on May hey (and April but that doesn’t rhyme). Tickets on sale here.

LOCATION: Gold Coast Bulletin Centenary Park, Broadbeach
WHEN: April 17th until May 12th, 2019

Bleach* Festival 2019

Time flies when you live on the Gold Coast and pretty much everything around you is fun. It flies so fast in fact, that’s it’s time for Bleach* Festival again and the recently released 2019 program is bigger and better than ever.

The incredible festival once again combines local, national and international artists in 132 performances over 12 days in music, dance, opera, theatre, cabaret, circus and visual arts and it’s not to be missed (again).

Because fun and cultural stimulation is what we live for, we are here to discuss a few key things you should absolutely not miss at the 2019 Bleach* Festival.

The eighth annual festival runs from April 17th to 28th and signals a new era for the Coast while celebrating our unique culture with a jam-packed program spanning large-scale opera, award-winning dance, eye-popping cabaret, free live music, a thought- provoking political swimming carnival and a thrilling drive-in with a difference. That’s a lot.

Let’s begin by discussing our beloved Spiegeltent, back to dazzle us with its magnificence and a little circus-style show called Limbo Unhinged. It’s by the folks behind Blanc de Blanc and it’ll unleash pyrotechnics, sword-swallowing and aerial shenanigans against a pulsating live soundtrack from April 17th to May 12th. Fun.

Bleach* Festival’s centerpiece event, Verdi’s Requiem, shows on April 27 and, featuring more than 150 musicians and singers, will be performed under the stars, with HOTA’s outdoor stage transformed into a fiery ceremonial sanctuary.

Also premiering in 2019 is Water Songs, a musical concert series that will travel through the Gold Coast’s waterways. Minstrels will perform from the waterfront into backyards and public parks along canals, creeks and channels just doing their musical thing, which is obviously epic.

Townsville’s Dancenorth presents Tectonic, a free 15-minute performance installation staged twice a night and inspired by the plight of Torres Strait communities whose island homes will be consumed by rising sea levels. We hear it’s an absolute must-see.

Bleach* Festival once again welcomes long-time collaborators The Farm, a Gold Coast-based dance theatre company, to present Throttle, a drive-in live-action movie with a difference. It’s a b-grade thriller that plays out in front of an audience who are all safely hidden away in their cars, which sounds like a horror movie in itself to be honest but we’ll give it a whirl.

Closing out the festival will be a concert featuring the delightful Montaigne on Burleigh beach and we are definitely here for that.

That’s all we’re going to chat about for now but let it be known the entire program is filled with absolutely mind blowing performances, all of which you should make time to see.

There you have it, another exciting round of Bleach* Festival is about to begin.

The Spiegeltent is back

Bet you never thought a favourite tent is a thing you’d have. Neither but here we are with news of our favourite tent – the Spiegeltent. It’s back and better than ever, putting down roots in Broadbeach and all set for a sparkly 2019.

First and foremost, LIMBO Unhinged will grace us with its presence. It’s one of those circus-style, cabaret productions we know and love and, because it’s brought to us by Scott Maidment (creator of Blanc de Blanc), you know it’s going to be a goodie.

There are sword swallowers, incredible acrobatics, contortionists and beat boxing and, of course, some of the very best dance numbers around. It’s all the sexiness, sizzle and upbeat edginess you’ve come to expect from the Spiegeltent and we’re extremely excited.

Next up is singing sensation Katie Noonan and her jazz trio Elixir, bringing their Gratitude and Grief National Tour to the big top as part of Bleach* Festival 2019. The show is a collaboration between Elixir and Australia’s ‘poet laureate’ Michael Leunig; combining Michael’s spoken-word poetry with Katie’s angelic vocals and Elixir’s sublime improvisation.

Katie’s ARIA nominated album translates Leunig’s poetry into stunning jazz and, as you’d expect, has received rave reviews for its unique combination of poetry, art and music.

Sounds like pure magic to us.

Folk Jazz trio Elixir is approaching 20 years in the business. Fronted by Noonan with Jazz saxophonist Zac Hurren, the trio has enjoyed enormous success along the way including an ARIA Award for Best Jazz Album in 2011, 13 weeks at #1 on the ARIA Jazz Chart, and numerous high-profile festival appearances.

It’s set to be a night to remember, all within the spectacular surrounds of the Spiegeltent.

Tickets to Katie Noonan are $70 and on sale now. We highly recommend getting in quick.

Tickets are also on sale for LIMBO Unhinged starting at $59.

LOCATION: Gold Coast Bulletin Centenary Park, Broadbeach
WHEN: LIMBO Unhinged will show from April 17th to May 12th and Katie Noonan performs on Thursday 18th April.
